Just started using ts streaming to the client with the 'very beta' patch and noticed that while playing live TV the available system memory decreases at about 1meg/s.
I only found this out because I noticed the HDD chugging away and a low virtual memory warning, so I'm guesing it starts growing a huge paging file when all the memorys used up.

If it's the client PC that is low on memory it's normal for any kind of streaming from another PC. It will buffer as much as it can in the memory which will give you memory problems if you run a PC without at least 2 GIG.

OK. I just hadn't noticed it before with mpeg, but I guess ts files are a bit more hefty.
Is there anyway to limit the buffer size as I watch quite a lot on the client and don't really like the idea of the hdd churning away constantly.
The client will only take 512mb of ram, so I guess I'm looking at problems if I turn the pagng file off completely.

Any comments on a leftfield solution of increasing RAM by adding an ide->compactflash adapter in place of the cdrom and setting the CF card as the paging file????

this is more like a memory leak...mine went up to almost 2 gigs memory while playing...
like it's caching the whole file for playback...not clearing old 'used' buffers..

but then again it's a 'very extreme beta' Big Grin
i'll stick with mpg as it works flawlessly on both client and server...and every other tool i want to use on it..Smile

hmm, compact flash will be extremely slow, specially as a swap file...

the memory eating is definitely not normal operation...will probably be fixed in next version..

This should resolve the memory leak.
