This problem has been bugging me for a while.

Let's say I watch a movie on GBPVR in the morning. Remote works fine. Turn my TV off, and leave the HTPC running. Come back after lunch to watch another movie, but the remote no longer works. If I go back into XP and restart IR, it works again.

So what seems to be happening is that after a certain time period, the Hauppauge IR disables itself. The IR program is still running in the system tray, however.

Anyone knows what is wrong? Sounds like a registry problem to me... but I have no idea.

In the absence of any other replies, I would recommend that you also post this on the Hauppague web site as it is not gbvpr-specific.

I used to have loads of problems with ir.exe not responding when resuming from standby but a motherboard upgrade fixed that.

The only other common cause is when you watch a divx movie and the divx tooltray utility steals focus away from pvrx2.

jonlai9,

For WinXP there is a set of patches that can be applied that might help:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912024

I've applied this patch to my WinXP Pro install even though the patch mentions Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
Of course apply at your own risk.

This patch will not show up on WinXP Pro via windows update for WinXP Pro.

Might try google'ing "eHome Update Rollup 2" for more information.

I tried this fix but it would not go through because it states I have a newer Service Pack installed. I don't want to uninstall SP, apply, and reinstall SP.

Are there alternate fixes available?

Is it just PVRX2 loosing focus, or is the remote sensor completely non-responsive?
i.e. after shutting down PVRX2, what happens when you press 'GO' or 'TV' on the remote?
I have experienced PVRX2 loosing focus and it has always been down to some program 'stealing' focus, typically a tray icon. As stated, some codecs have tray icons that can steal focus - CoreAVC, Divx, etc - but you would notice this as soon as you play a corresponding file. I can imagine Skype or messenger could do the same.
However I have always found that pressing the menu (i) button on the Hauppage remote gets the focus back - I think the entry in iremote ini that does this is;
MENU={switch(*task*)}{shift}{tab}
Even if the remote is not working in GBPVR after a sleep / wake, pressing the menu key a few times seems to get it working again.
