I've been having a problem with gbpvr with the pre and post recording padding. I have it set to 3 minutes on both but when I set up a recording in the tv guide the recording stops at the hour when i view it. Any help would be appreciated.

If you pause a recording, what does the timeline on the OSD say the total length is?

It just shows 60 minutes for one hour of recording. It should be 66minutes.

Odd - I'm not aware of any issues with pre/post padding being totally ignored (but I don't read all posts here).

The way padding is treated does depend on whether you have back-to-back recordings on the same tuner but, if this is a standalone (nothing before or after) then it should have the padding obviously.

The best thing is to zip/post your gbpvrrecordingservice.exe.log and .exe-native.log here after a recording has finished.

In the logs, it looked there was no padding set on that recording.

I had 3 minutes for pre and post padding set in config. In the tv guide when i select a time to record it pops up a screen like you get for a manual recording, and in the menu it says (for my recording) 1700 to 1800 for the recording time. Does this mean that there is no pre and post padding and that I have to manually put it in myself or does gbpvr already know the pre and post padding and will add on to these times?

Padding is not applied to 'manual recordings'. It only applies to season recordings, or one-off recordings from the TV Guide.

what would be considered a manual recording, selecting a time to record in the tv guide or going to the recordings menu and selecting manual recording?

Either of those could be a manual recording. Usually recordings from the TV Guide are eitehr one-off recordings of a programme (or creation of a season recording), and will have padding. A recording from the TV Guide can be a manual recording if it wasnt scheduled from a program listing, ie you dont have a epg source correctly setup and scheduled from a 'no show listings' empty slot in the TV Guide.

Its easy to tell. If its a manual recording, it'll ask you for the start time and end time of the recording. If its a program recording, it'll instead ask you about the padding etc.
