Change Default GBPVR Keyboard References

Hello, I just bought a adesso arc-1100 remote control to use with my gbpvr setup and I've run into a issue with it. The remote basicly mimics a keyboard. For instance pressing play on the remote is sending the command ctrl-p. From what I can gather the remote uses the default key mappings for windows media player and some of the buttons don't work in gbpvr. For instance the pause button doesn't work because its sending ctrl-p instead of ctrl-q. Is there some place in the config file or else where in gbpvr that I could change the keyboard mappings so that for instance ctrl-p would pause instead of ctrl-q so that the pause button on my remote would work? There are a few other keys that I would need to remap as well but for the most part the other buttons work.

The keymappings are stored in (drumroll please) the KeyMappings directory under GB-PVR. There is an .xml file for each part of the program. You may have to change multiple files, since for example the Pause function is used by two different LiveTV players, the Video Player, the DVD Player, and the Music player (and probably somewhere else that I'm forgetting).

You can use the ShowKey program in the KeyMappings folder to show what keypress a given button is generating (the .net name for a keypress isn't always what you think it should be, like PageDown is 'Next' or something like that).

That all said, you have a problem. From your description, you say your remote sends Ctrl-p for both Play and Pause. GB-PVR won't work with that setup - you can change the keymapping for play and pause all day, but if the remote is sending the same keypress it just isn't going to work. People have asked sub to accomodate a single-key play/pause feature, but I don't recall him being receptive to the idea.

So your work-around will have to be to find another button that isn't otherwise being used, and map that keypress to the pause function. You could probably use the Stop button for Pause, since there's no real need to use Stop in most circumstances - the Escape or Back button usually accomplishes Stop just fine.

Or, can you change the remote programming to match GBPVR? Assuming there is a program running on the PC that translates the remote signal to keypress equivalents. The Hauppauge remote uses a file that maps its keys to keypresses or other functions depending on which program (MCE, GBPVR, etc) has focus in Windows. Maybe there is something similar for your remote.

I have 2 input devices that have a combined Play/Pause and would therefore request Sub to be more receptive.

I have just bought the Di Novo Mini from Logitech that has the same Play/Pause so would love to see this work in a way that needed no explanation to the Mrs. A config option to enable Play/Pause toggling would be great if you have time Sub.

I did put it on my "implement for the next release if I manage to the other stuff done" list. I havnt done anything about it yet though - still working on other more high priority stuff.

I had a similar issue with my remote and solved it by buying an USBUIRT and installing HIP. I use the same remote (the USBUIRT can receive from lots of remotes) and in HIP you can define different keypresses sendt to the application for first and second keypress from the remote.

Thanks Sub, I can see no other way to do that other than having native support as remapping the key to toggle between CTRL-P and CTRL-Q before gbpvr "sees" it is likely to get all messed up.
