I was trying to setup a laptop as a new client (WXP Pro SP3). Here's what I did:

Installed DirectX 9.0
Installed .Net 2.0 SP1
Installed the current version of GBPVR (currently v1.3.11)
Installed patches from the forums.gbpvr.com from the "survival guide" thread

I skipped Config, PVRX2 launches fine to the menu. Then I configure it to act as a client, using streaming, with the appropriate server name and database path. When I tried to launch PVRX2 again, it crashes with a MS .Net Framework unhandled exception. Clicking the "continue" button brings up a PVRX2 window with a white background and a big red X through the whole window, and the same unhandled exception window. It just keeps coming back. I have to kill it from Task Manager. My logs from this client are attached.

I tried removing and reinstalling GBPVR, but get the same results. I can, at any time, uncheck the "act as client" option in Config and PVRX2 will launch. I also noticed the client I had installed on my wife's computer does the exact same thing (use to work, I remember watching the Super Bowl on it), so I wonder if something changed on my server which is causing this?

I did go back to the PC client "how to" on the wiki, but didn't see any steps that I missed.

Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Brad

Client doesn't seem to be connecting with server that would cause the error you describe. Make sure you have PVRX2.EXE and GBPVR recording service in your firewall exceptions maybe also config as well.

Thanks for the response, good thought. I just checked and both PVRX2 and GBPVR recording service are allow thru the firewall on my wife's machine (which use to work). I had to add PVRX2 on the new computer (it must not have gotten far enough to cause ZA to ask?). Both computers crash with the same error. The server also has these apps allowed. I have 3 MVPs and a PCH (NMT) which work great with the server.

Any other thoughts?

Do I need to increase the "number of servers to auto start" on the server for the additional PC client? Just for grins, I unplugged one of my MVPs, but I get the same error.

I have kept all 3 of these computers up to date with MS's updates, I wonder if one of their magic patches broke something?

Figured it out. The share of the GBPVR database folder on the server was not set to allow network users to modify the contents. Not sure how that got changed...
