Made backup of 0055.ini
Did as you suggested and modified 0055.ini to C63 transponder and it worked, got audio and video.
Then did the 5 as you suggested and they also worked.
Then did all 6 and they worked too.

I then tried re-running the backup (original file), but that didn’t work. I thought that I should copy this to you with a copy of the one that did work, but the one that did work subsequently failed to work. Back to square one.

Started over. And each time having to reboot (vista takes such a long time closing down and booting up again).

Made 0055 c63 - all worked ok.
Made 0055 c63 and c53 – all worked ok
Made 0055 c63 c53 c58 c61 c64 – all worked ok
Made 0055 all 6 and it is working ok. I have saved it and left it working at this stage.

After each 0055 modification I saved and rebooted

Looking through the listings of the various options used in 0055.ini I can see no obvious differences.

Having needed to go through the reboot process after each modification and doing it a dozen or so times over a period of about 6 hours I finally became confused as to which was the faulty one.

Thus I am unable to help identify the problem for your requirements. That is unless you can pick this up from logs.

As long as it works I'm satisfied. I'm puzzled of course as you are about why you got different results depending on which copy of the file you used; that would seem to point to a corruption in the original file, but it's just a simple text file so any corruption should have been obvious to you.

Sorry you worked so hard at it.

As I said before, I couldn’t see any obvious differences, - weird.
Anyway thank you (and your colleagues) for your patience, help and guidance in getting me working, - much appreciated.

As an after thought, and from a newbie perspective, might it be useful to have an even simpler “getting started” routine within your wiki, since some are coming to GB-PVR with no prior technical knowhow.

Perhaps something along the lines of :-

9 steps to watching tv on your pc

1 download and install
2 before running “Start PVRX2” run “Start Config”
3 goto “Capture Sources” tab and click “Add”
4 “Create Capture Source” info and “OK”
5 highlight captured source and click “Edit”
6 in “Edit Recording Source” click “Map …”
7 in “Digital Channel Mapping” enable channels to view and “OK”
8 exit “Config” and reboot
9 click “Start PVRX2” and enjoy.

Again, thanks.

Happy to help. It's sort of how I 'pay' for gb-pvr. I probably will make a monetary donation one of these days, particulary if sub has to rattle the tin again. I like to think that when I succeed in helping someone that takes a little load off sub. Plus, I learn alot about GB-PVR by reading all the threads and helping with various problems.

As to the getting started instructions, there is a pretty good quick start in the wiki but it is being revised. In particular it needs to more directly reference the 'Define HDTV capture source' instructions, and also rename that to 'Digital capture source' since it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with HDTV. Somewhere more needs to be written about decoders as well. I do have wiki access, I suppose one of these days I ought to spread a little of my 'payment' over there.

Now that you have GB-PVR running, permit me to pimp the Community Skin project and associated themes. http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Skin/CommunitySkin. Yes, they do generously list me as a dev, but what little I've done is not yet publicly available. I do have some stuff waiting in the wings for the next release of GB-PVR (dependant on some changes sub has made). It's the other 3 guys' blood, sweat and tears you'll see on your screen.
