GBPVR version: 1.3.11 with all patches from survival guide
Operating System: XP Pro 32 bit
Windows Media Player version: 11
Codecs and codec packs: FFDShow, Haali splitter, Arcsoft TME
h.264 Decoder used in GBPVR config: Arcsoft Video Decoder
Video card: Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT
Video card driver version: 185.85
Processor: Core 2 Duo E8400 3 Ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte EP45-DS3R
RAM: 2 GB

HD PVR Revision: D1
HD PVR Driver: 1.0.5.301

I tried the newest HD PVR drivers (1.5.6) but they made the audio sound really bad. I am using the digital spdif audio input. Has anyone else tried the newest drivers and how are they working for you?

Finally found a configuration that works!

GBPVR version: 1.3.11 with survival guide patches
Operating System: Windows XP 32-bit
Windows Media Player version: None installed
Codecs: MPC - MPEG-2 Video Decoder (Gabest) for MPEG2 and DVD. AC3Filter for audio.
h.264 Decoder: Arcsoft with DXVA1.0 output. AC3Filter for audio.
Video renderer: VMR9 FSE
Graphics card: Radeon 3450
Video driver: Catalyst 9.6 for Windows XP 32-bit
Processor: AMD X2 2.1GHz
Chipset: 690G
RAM: 2GB
HDPVR Driver Version: 1.5.6
HDPVR revision: C2

I had to add the following line in config.xml to hear audio in Live Preview:
<PreferredHDPVRAudioFormat>AC3</PreferredHDPVRAudioFormat>

I also had to set my STB to output everything at 1080i. SD channels captured in their normal resolutions would not work too well.

I had to select the system default audio renderer to eliminate my lip sync problems.

I can't flip through channels when Live Preview mode is disabled, so I have to leave the Live Preview option checked.

CPUs run at ~20% in both live preview and time shift modes.

I'm tempted to try the Cyberlink h.264 decoder now.

I'm running the latest GB-PVR on XP Home on a cheap MB (I don't remember the brand) with a 3GHz P4 and 1.5G of RAM. I have one of the first run of the HD-PVR's and run an old version of the drivers...I don't remember which but IIRC it's the first version that did AC3 sound. I also have a Dvico Fusion 5 card for OTA ATSC and a Twinhan card (1020A?) for recording PBS HD in DVB off the AMC 21 bird. The box runs an Nvidia 6200 video card but I don't use it much. Viewing is with a PCH into my 65" Mitsu TV using Martin's latest PCH2 package. I feed the HD-PVR from a Cox cable SA4240 STB fixed at 1080i with channel changing via an MS beanbag blaster and HIP. I have a 250G internal drive but use a 500G external eSATA drive for recording and a 250G external USB drive for ripped DVD's. It's a bit of a Rube Goldberg lash-up but it all works quite well and reliably.

GBPVR version: 1.3.11
Operating System: Vista 32 (EVR)
Windows Media Player version: 11
Codecs and codec packs:ffdshow, Cyberlink, Arcsoft, ATI, Haali
h.264 Decoder: Cyberlink Version 7
Video card: Radeon 3650
Video card driver version:Catalyst 8.5 ( If it isn't broken why fix it)
Processor: AMD x2 4600
Motherboard or chipset:Biostar T-force 550SE
RAM: 4GB
HDPVR Driver Version: 1.5.6
HDPVR revision: D2

I noticed most people seem to use the Arcsoft video decoder for h.264, I tried it but was never able to get smooth playback. Switched to Cyberlink and have never looked back. Use ffdshow for ac3 and arcsoft only for aac. But since everything i record is ac3 now, no real need for Arcsoft except for some download videos. Took some initial trial and error with the decoders to get everything right so I would say give that a try.

Only thing I could suggest for your SD video issue is to try the cyberlink decoder and change the check box in the TME software to do 2channel audio in AC3 and see how that works. Never had any problems with SD with my setup. Good Luck.
