1) The networkability of all my media
2) Comskip (that is why the wife lets me do this)
3) High Def recordings without the extra money to the cable company
4) The amazing amount I have learned that I use at work and at home. Building PCs, networking, xp, vista, 7, etc.
5) This user group and of course sub, who let me know what real discussion forums should act like, and to know (remember) that great people exist in every corner of this small world.

The best part of GB-pvr for me has been the overall experience. I built twin systems following specs on a Mythtv website. I then spent 3 months off and on working on the systems to get them to work with the "easy to use" knoppmyth. They always had a bug or two and the support forums were not very helpful. I use a linux router at home as well as Linux Mint on my laptop, but it always seemed to me that the mythtv crowd was very elitist when it came to helping others, especially newbs like me.
Just when I was ready to give up on the whole PVR thing, I did a search on wikipedia and found a chart comparing PVR programs. GB-pvr seemed to have all the features i wanted. I loaded it up and 1 hour later had it running in the living room with my wife (who is very computer illiterate) at the controls. She was able to control it and it was very intuitive for her.
My expectations for my "tv boxes" were recording tv and playing back the video. I was blown away by the ability to network to my music, my home photos and videos, and basically any other media i had on my hard drives. Fast forward a couple of years and the GB-PVR is now a permanent piece of furniture in my living room. Every morning before i goto work, my daughter (who is 9 months old) and i sit in the living room watching Bugs bunny cartoons, or we look at family pictures, or we listen to children's music....all with one remote. The future holds even more as i plan eventually to go HD as well as expand PCH to all the bedrooms in my house. I let people borrow the spare gb-pvr so they can get a taste of this awesome program and i have several friends who have seen it, played with it, and then called me wanting help to build their own.
On top of all of this which comes with the base program, the community is awesome for tech support, plugins, and overall comeraderie. Furthermore, the whole thing is supported by a man who I think never actually sleeps because he answers questions within 5 minutes of when they were asked.

Thank you all and especially thank you Sub. Words cannot express how much you have improved my overall media entertainment experience. You are awesome.

Good idea to turn this one positive...! Big Grin

I read through the thread and would say 'yes' to everything.

Over the last three years, I've seen the app get better and easier to support.

Sure there are a few geeks in our midst, but just think about how many non-geeks are here. And they are diving in to a project knowing they will not be alone if they get into trouble. Just think about how many people are running GB-PVR and never post to the forum.

And as said, I can't believe how friendly this place is...

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

1. Automatic Comskip
2. MyVideos
3. Easily transfer, stream, edit almost any type of networked media
4. Watch GB-PVR in any room thanks to MVP (I can't upgrade to PCH or NMT yet), Kids can watch their shows in their rooms and I can watch my shows in mine.
5. Multituner if other sources are available
6. Easily upgrade any part with a quick purchase from Fry's or Newegg
7. Watch Netflix, ESPN360, Hulu, etc on TV screen
8. All done fairly cheaply w/o having to pay a DVR fee to a cable or satellite company.

I could do #4 and #5 only with recorded TV with Uverse wholehouse DVR but I would lose the three most important.

Thank you sub, Eric (comskip), Reven (MyVideos), mvallevand (MVP server), pBS and everyone else that has helped in making it possible.
