Hi All:
This is probably a dumb questions, but can I use GBPVR to play back content I have downloaded from the Internet? I am building an HTPC w/o a tuner. I plan to download content from the Internet and then play it back on my HDTV.

Also, is there a way to capture video (say from Hulu), record it on my NAS so I can play the video back at a later time?

Thanks.

Im currently playing with that.

One way to get videos sitting in folders, so that you can point the GBPVR 'videos' section to.. is to use a RSS feed grabber. Alot of services have rss links, like hulu, youtube, PBS, Nasa, torrents, etc. I'm already up to 50 chans of interesting episodes (and I only just found the torrent link..).

The problem (on my end), is that these videos come in as mp4's, or mov's, or avi's or swf's etc. Im using an MVP, so it would be nice to convert the various formats into mpegs instead.. Im using an exe i wrote to convert them as they come in.

But... if you're using an htpc with video-out to the tv.. then yer all set.. just find a podcast/vodcast/broadcatching/whatever other names they wanna come up with for it.. client, and get going. Miro might work good for you.. I had to switch to Juice b/c it can call an external command (my app) as each file downloads.

In GBPVR, just point a new folder link for videos in the config, to your output folder from Juice/Miro etc.

Happy trails.

added: I started a new thread, maybe we can get some chatter about this. I think it has some kinda future to it.

Dave: Thanks for the comment. Do you have a specific(s) RSS feed grabber you would recommend? I have downloaded TED but would like to look into others.

Thanks,

Harold

Juice seems good, but it seemed to have troubles with some rss sites (might be a rss-1 vs rss-2 thing ?) Development of Juice has stopped for some time now, as far as i can tell.

Miro is a little more modern (ver 2.5 just came out, Ihavent tried it yet..)
getmiro.com is the web site for it.

Im hoping to get Ubustream running, which then would be a GBPVR direct plugin.. simpler solution. Not sure how its going to compare to Miro for grabbing yet.

Thanks for the comment. I haven't noticed any problems, but my needs are fairly modest. If I encounter problems, I'll try Miro.
