I have a few older computers laying around the house gathering dust. I would like to convert one of them into a NMT like device running some flavor of Linux (because its free). Yes, I know about Mythbuntu, but for the sake of this thread, lets focus on a linux box that can act as a client to GBPVR set up elsewhere in your home.
First question:
I believe that this is possible, but I am not familiar with the inner workings of GBPVR. Does anyone know that this kind of set up is not Possible (or conversely, does anyone know absolutely that this kind of setup should work.

I am considering a PIII 800 machine using a 256MB video card with TV out. Ram is at 786Mb. 10Gb hard drive.

Any other discussion?

Although it is not GBPVR for a low end machine I'd suggest http://geexbox.org/en/index.html you can try it out with the Live CD.

As for a full port of what I call emulation mode to linux, I can't see doing it. I did look into it and I think the best thing would be for someone to write some python scripts for XBMC linux to interface to UJB's EWA web services.

Actually I was wondering about the mechanics involved in getting a linux box to pick up the GBPVR feed via VLC. Certainly there are further developments involved in getting a remote keyboard to push commands back to GBPVR (VNC for that??).

Sounds like you want EWA.

That is the route I took when experimenting with linux in the past.

Extended Web Admin - gbpvr out of the box comes with web use/admin.
EWA is (I think) just the most up to dat version of it.
