I just built a new computer (running Vista 64, Dual core,4gig ram) and installed a new Hauppauge 2250 card and all works great ! the problem is when I try to use the Hauppauge 150 card in the same computer and run the 150 I get digitizing and stuttering just on that card. First I thought it might be because I was recording 3 diff. shows at the same time and the (on board graphics card ) couldn't handle them but when I watch live tv with just that card it happens. I went and downloaded the drivers for vista from Hauppauge but it didn't help Any ideas PS vista will be replaced by windows 7 when it comes out ( don't want to learn vista when it's being replaced )

btw: live tv is actually recording to a temp file also.

I can;t quite get a complete picture in my mind of what is happening here.

Are you saying that any recordings that you make with the 150 will stutter when you play them, even if you are not recording any other programs at the time?

And that any recordings make on the 2250 are always ok?

or that live tv on 2250 is ok but not on 150 ?

or that you only see the problem when viewing tv or when recording at the same time as you are trying to playback.

(you know you can change default playback tuner in config.exe by moving tuners up and down)

typical causes of stuttering are is likely to be a codec, gbpvr config problem. hardware conflict (interrupt sharing)

run gbpvr in a window (CTRL-ENTER) and see what cpu load is like during playback

Maybe try a different MPEG decoder.

if that all fails, reproduce the problem and upload your logs
Also provide details on hardware (cpu, mem, mobo, graphics chipset)

interesting comment from fla at the end of this thread

..regardless of which driver and registry fix you have, if you are performing multiple recordings at once and watching one of them in progress skipping back and forth a lot the problem still occurs. Having a weaker CPU and fragmented drive increase the likelihood of the timestamp issue occurring.

not if you set "use preview mode for livetv"...then hard drive isn't touched at all...

i would suspect interrupt sharing conflict...but almost impossible to change interrupt on modern mb's...everything's made to be shareable interrupt thesedays...
may also be drivers...
you can try changing slots if one's available...or install order...reverse the order you install the cards in...[one driver software could be clobbering the other upon install]

Yes

Yes

Yes

Quote:that you only see the problem when viewing tv or when recording at the same time as you are trying to playback.

No the problem only occurs when I am viewing a recording that was done on the 150 or watching live tv on the 150 and not doing anything else

Currently I have only the 1 card (2250) in I thought may be the 150 didn't like Vista 64 bit, and when I install the card Vista will not give me the option of canceling the" looking for new hardware and installing the best drivers for it " and installs what it wants. ! so I thought I would use the new hardware install wizard and make changes that way (what a mistake) got the BSD and the comp wouldn't boot so I went into safe mode and uninstalled the 150 card and software. all is fine but I don't have the 150 in at the time
since I am a newbe to windows Vista 64 I am having trouble finding everything in relation to xp and have never setup a computer using 2 cards (3 tuners ) this is a challenge
Quote:you know you can change default playback tuner in config.exe by moving tuners up and down

Hum I wondered what that did I knew I could change the position's of the tuners but didn't know why I would want to (Now I understand that)
The cpu is a E5300 2.60 GHz, core 45nm FSB 800MHz socket 775
Mem 4 gig DDr2
motherboard Biostar G31-M7 TE chip set intel R G33/G31
there is nothing else on this computer (just made for the pvr function )

If the problem is when playing back the 150 recordings and not the 2250, then the problem is either being caused at the point of the reccording or they somehow have a crazy bitrate (which can be set config.exe, capture devices but i don't think that's it).

Like pBS, I suspect a driver or interupt problem.

you could just double check these recordings by downloading the small video player VLC and see how they play in that.

maybe remove the 2250 and 150, run the hauppague hwclear utility, install 150 card, ensure vista doesn;t try strupid tricks and install 150 drivers manually.

Decide how much time you want to spend on this 3rd tuner. Maybe live with 2 for now and get another 2250? depends on your time vs money priorities.

Thx for the reply
the DPC Latency Checker sounds like an interesting program that I should have just sitting on all of my computers ! I will check it out thx

Your right about time VS money thing! and I don't think the 150 card will be windows 7 compatible ! But on the other hand its a (it should work with vista) and I hate being defeated ! (have not given up ) Yet ! and when I figure out what is causing it I will post back thx for the reply's
