I have registered many a codec and have never had to play with the registry and they work just fine. All the MPC ones for example that come separately.

Yeah, I was able to reinstall CCCP just fine after, I just had to deselect the mpeg2 stuff in the config program so that PureVideo would be the only thing that is registered to decode it. No problems so far. Smile

I'm still not entirely sure why DXVA wouldn't work with anything other than PureVideo, especially because PureVideo is an independent codec and has nothing really to do with video card (read it can even be used with ATI cards). But in any case, its working perfectly now.

I just want to update this thread.

I still haven't found a perfect solution, unfortunately. It seems that the encodings of each channel seem to work better with certain settings - I've yet to find a solution that does everything automatically.

PureVideo worked well for me as I said above on all 1080i content. It's perfect. Problem is, 720p stations lose audio/video sync pretty badly after awhile. It seems to me that it deinterlaces everything, not just interlaced content. I reinstalled SAF and so far that seems to be working, but only with constant tweaking depending on which station I watch.

The default SAF settings work perfectly for ABC, Fox, WB (or whatever it is now), and CW. These are all 720p. NBC is 1080i, and it works very well with FFDShow real time deinterlacing (deint option, yadif double frame rate) but CBS with these settings is super jerky even though it is also 1080i. Instead for CBS checking "Use inverse telecine" option in the nVidia control center works perfectly (with FFDShow deint off), but for NBC this option does almost nothing.

So.. everything is watchable and works good, but as you can see I do have to fiddle a bit depending on which channel I'm watching. It works, but is far from ideal. I don't really know why this seems to be such an issue for me but not others?

velinn, have you thought about going with Windows 7? I was having similar problems as you in XP, and I took the plunge into Windows 7 and EVR and everything is working great (1080i and 720p, DXVA, low CPU, great image quality, across all channels). I'm using the Cyberlink decoder extracted from the PowerDVD trial.

Yeah that just might be my only solution software-wise, I suppose.

I've considered just getting a splitter for my antenna and running it to both my actual tv and to the computer, using GB-PVR simply for recording shows since playback with VLC works great regardless of the format of the content.
