I have my Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1600 to the point where I have a few good QAM channels mapped to the analog cable channels, and can record them by recording the right analog cable channel.

QAM channels running SD or 720p can record fine with any multiplexer. However, the only BDA Multiplexer that can record 1080i broadcasts is TS Mux - the other multiplexers either spit out empty files or two files of 5MB or so and that is it, they don't actually record anything, even Full TS. And I've tried the ATI Mux, almost all of the Cyberlink ones, the Intervideo one, Mainconcept, and DVR-MS.

However, trying to play the resulting files or open them up in a demultiplexer (such as TSconverter) won't work. Nothing can play them, even after installing HDTV Pump. TSConverter and VLC try to play it but get no video and only a few seconds of silent audio.

The thing is, I know that I can play 1080i since if I make recordings of 1080i QAM with WinTV 6, it spits out an MPG file that I can play with anything, VLC, Media Player Classic, open up with AVI_Demux, etc. Works perfectly.

So, I guess the question is what multiplexer is that (Intervideo?) and is there a reason it will not/does not work for GBPVR the same way?

The TS Mux and DVR-MS mux should work perfectly. WinTV7 use thes MainConcept mux which also works well.

GB-PVR doesnt know the difference between a 720p and 1080i recording, and both should be identical, with treating the transport stream exactly the same. Its more likely a playback problem if you cant want those 1080i recordings.

Reproduce the recording problem with the DVR-MS mux, then zip and attach the GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log and GBPVRRecordingService.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

LOL, you keeping secrets again? I know Hauppauge does not rush to update and 6 came out this year, I couldn't believe 7 was out too. Wink

1) Here are the logs, in one zip file, attatched.

Sorry the logs are so verbose, I had recordings pending (with the analog tuner which has no problems so far) at the time so those get repeated frequently.

2) It is not just a playback issue, as no actual recordings are produced with any muxer other than TS Mux.

In this case two files were produced, Heroes_20080922_19002000.dvr-ms and Heroes_20080922_19002000-1.dvr-ms, each of them about 5k. I have attached them as well.

Furthermore, the TS Mux files are not readable by TS Converter or AVI Demux, or playable by VLC which does not rely on installed codecs.

Finally, WinTV is able to record 1080i streams just fine (using the MainConcept mux apparently) and I am able to play the resulting MPG files just fine using VLC, Media Player Classic + internal MPEG-2 decoder, and Windows Media Player + HDTVPump.

Thank you everyone for all of your help and support!

Check your config.xml and make sure the following settings match what I post:
Code:
<BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnRecord>[B][color=Red]true[/color][/B]</BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnRecord>
  <BDADisableStatusChecks>[B][color=red]false[/color][/B]</BDADisableStatusChecks>
  <BDACheckSignalStatusDuringRecording>[B][color=red]1[/color][/B]</BDACheckSignalStatusDuringRecording>
This should solve the issue with the 5kb recordings.
