I've just done a fresh install of my pc and installed GB-PVR along with PowerDVD 6 as my mpeg2 decoder. I have two issues:

1. In live TV mode, there is severe deinterlacing problems. For example, watching CNN's scrolling banner, you cannot read it. But if I switch to timeshifting mode, everything becomes clear.

2. Trying to playback a recording doesn't work. It doesn't play in PVRX2 or WMP. Microsoft's DecCheck says Cyberlink is the preferred decoder.

Play one of these recordings then zip and attach the pvrx2.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

First I'd try setting the audio renderer back to 'system default'. If that doesnt help, then I'd try installing the MPV/MPA decoders from: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm and http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPA_Decoder.htm

Still doesn't work. I should reiterate that it's the some software I've been using for the last 2 years with GB-PVR. The only thing that changed is a newer version of Catalyst, and an install of FFDShow.

it's ffdshow...it can take over some things without realizing..even audio..
try uninstalling it and see how it goes..sounds like it's interfering with deinterlacing, so ffdshow is one of the few that can mess it up..
also check the timeshift settings on misc tab...make sure is set to 'encoder pass-thru'

It turns out it was "Haali Media Splitter" that caused the problem. I use it to playback mkv files and somehow the option for it to do "splitting" on MPEG2 files was enabled. All works well now.
