Atom 330, Nvidia 8400gs video card, which is Cuda capable.

With DXVA (mpc-hc mpcvideodec.ax), I saw around 4% CPU utilization. With the 1080p clip from nunnally.ahmygoddess.net/, maybe 9%. AVCCore/Cuda could not play this clip without skipping badly.

So, my conclusion for my underpowered system: DXVA is much better than AVCCore+Cuda. Although I realize DXVA has it's limitations, for my system there isn't anything better.
Interesting. It seems the ION might be better than the 8400GS. On Windows 7, I haven't had any playback problems with the videos from nunnally using CoreAVC.

The machines I mentioned in my earlier post have no DXVA support for H.264 (Intel 945GC and NVIDIA GF6200TC). Paired with anemic CPUs, CoreAVC was pretty much the only option to get some measure of H.264 HD playback.

For my part, I went with the external player (MPC w/ hardware acceleration). It's... well, it's an acceptable, but by no means ideal, solution.

I lose GBPVR's OSD, being able to change the size of the subtitles, and am still working on getting the remote functions to match. On the other hand, I also lose the stuttering, impossible to watch, out-of-sync video, which is a real feature. It's an exchange I'm more than willing to make.

Incidentally, hoborg, my apologies for turning your wishlist thread into a mini "Ommi-support-thread". So let me, with the close of this post at least, echo hoborg's wish for DXVA + subtitle support built into GBPVR.

What type of subtitles? Its already got full DXVA + subtitle support for dvb subtitles, teletext subtitles, srt subtitles... which pretty covers subtitles types recorded from TV broadcasts (only missing north american CC style subtitles). These work with both MPEG2 and H.264 channels.

Well, like hoborg before me, my wish extends to subtitles muxed into an mkv container.

I appreciate, though, that built-in MKV subtitle support is somewhat beyond the purview of GBPVR (after all, it isn't GBPVR that is creating the files), but still, as long it's a wishlist, this wish shall be my wish!

To be fair, too, MKVs play fine, subtitles and all. It's only when DXVA enters the picture that the external splitter + ffdshow solution falls apart.

(Edit: on review, the whole 'wish' sentence seemed a lot less silly when I originally typed it.)
