I am having the problem that after a recording from a stb that I am using the usb-uirt on for channel changes I loose it. It works the first time, and then promptly fails to change channels there after. The usbuirt works fine for controlling PVRX2. I just loose control of the stb channel changes. I was using the usb-uirt plugin, and read where someone had switched to usbuirtsend.exe for channel changes and that fixed the problem. I am attempting to do so but am running into usbuirtsend.exe crashing out. I am guess that my dat file is probably the issue but would like some input.

It took me several times scanning the ir codes to get them all. I ended up putting three files together to get it right. I copied and pasted the good parts of one file into the damaged of another until I had one undamaged file. It will now change channels beautifully using the usb-uirt plugin until I do a recording. Now I bet this is where the problem lies. I don't have a ".dat" file but a ".txt" file. I don't think usbuirtsend.exe likes this. Is there an easy way to properly convert a text file into a dat file. I tried simply renaming it, to get a .dat file. Like you would to create a .bat file. But usbuirt.exe crashes using this file. Or is there something where I have to be running usbuirt.exe from a specific folder?

That is the file I'm using which is a .txt file renamed to a .dat file.

I created a directory "c:\usbuirtsend". Put my dat file in it, and a copy of usbuirtsend. I have tried to run it from the command line and get the same issue. So I know it is something with the parameters I'm passing or perhaps a file that I need in the same directory that I am missing.

[INDENT]usbuirtsend "c:\usbuirtsend\stb.dat" 135/INDENT]

That is the how I am trying to use the command. I get windows has encountered an error, and had to close the program.

** Ok confirmed it is my defition file that is causing the issue. I used one of the canned .dat files and it works, just not with my stb. So how to create a proper dat file???

Any ideas????

Thx, Mab

Ok, I found the problem. Using a hex editor I looked at the file that did work although not for my STB and the file I had created for my STB. It ended up being very simple. I was missing a 0x0a 0x0d at the end of the file. I must have dropped it while editing it earlier on. The Usb-uirt plugin worked with it although would stop working after the first time it was used for controlling a recording. It is now working properly with the usbuirtsend.exe file. Yeah!!! So a .dat file used here is nothing more than a txt file renamed to .dat. Just like when doing .bat files. A carriage return and a linefeed was all that was missing at the end of the file. Hopefully this info might help someone else.
