Not sure what i'm missing.
Windows 7 either gives me no audio on .mkv files or just a hissing sound.
Same PC with XP installed has no problems

Using FFDSHOW as decoder.

Any ideas?

I think even WMP needs the Haali splitter installed on Win 7 to play mkv's.

Maybe try this: http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/02/mkvs-for-...ows-7.html
Does it work with the VLC Player?

It works with XBMC for windows & Boxee which i've been launching as a seperate process after I gave up getting sound on GBPVR.
I think it worked with media player classic before I decided to wipe the system & start over.
However I can't get GBPVR on windows 7 to find the WMPC decodors.

So i'm using the FFDSHOW with video acceleration decoders.
Maybe that is the problem?

Try the SAF that Hoburg suggested above. It uses the latest ffdshow and helps set up everything.
I have win7 x64 and SAF works perfectly on my machine.

I think you should concentrate on getting it to work with a DirectShow player like Windows Media
Player if you want to work with GBPVR.

the mpc-hc decoders have to be installed separately to use in other programs, the player has them all built-in, but they aren't exposed to other programs..
the link pcostanza gave is what i use and haven't found any that won't play..
but also make sure all the audio decoders are enabled in ffdshow..
you might want to run the Win7DSFilterTweaker to enable ffdshow in wmp and mce..[from ffdshow makers]

I tried everything suggested in this thread & what worked was uninstalling & reinstalling SAF.
Maybe I had an incorrect setting in FFDSHOW.
I really don't know.
It works & I can watch my HD.
Thanks guys.
