I will do that tonight sub. Makes sense to see what will happen. But I will wait until my recordings are done for the night.

I will follow this protocol:

1) Settings - Recordings - uncheck box.
2) Exit Npvr
3) Stop Services
4) Restart Services
5) Restart Npvr
6) Schedule some recordings watch som tv etc etc. to see what happens.

If I dont' see any change I will try the same protocol with a reboot at the end and see.....

Cheers

Related to the tick, is there a why to permanently stop NextPVR from doing recordings and opening recording ports if the recording service isn't started? I use these

<AllowInProcessRecording>false</AllowInProcessRecording>
<UseRecordingService>true</UseRecordingService>

but haven't had much luck in the past

Sorry, no there isnt. If the recording service isnt running when you ask to use a device, then it'll spin up a local copy of the recording service.

I could live with that at record time, what I would like is a way for NextPVR not to become the Recording Service when it starts first starts up, blocking ports 7969 and 8968 which prevents the Recording Service from starting cleanly.

Awhile back I tried setting <AllowInProcessRecording> to false, and it did prevent NextPVR.exe from launching it's own recording service. However it didn't produce any error message until I attempted to do something that required the recording service.

What I'd really like is to both prevent NextPVR from launching it's own recording service AND get an immediate error message popup if the recording service isn't running.

Perhaps just one additional setting: <DisplayErrorIfNoRecordingService>

I'm trying to avoid the situation that has arisen in the past where the recording service doesn't start properly for some reason (or I just forget to start it), and then I start NextPVR.exe and think everything is ok. At some later time I exit NextPVR.exe, and that kills all the in-progress recordings (which are undoubtedly my wife's shows - NPVR knows which shows are my wife's and works hard to foul them up).

Good, you are right this did work. I can risk manage the rest myself.

Apologies. Didn't get a chance to test last night. Will do it today!
