How to map the coloured buttons on the remote?

I must be missing something, but i cant for the life of me work out how to map the coloured buttons on my Hauppauge remote. I tried using ^R in keymappings.xml but it didint work.

edit: if I read the thread right, the key to getting some of the functions to work is to change the letters in the ctrl-key combos to lower case, like {ctrl}r rather than {ctrl}R. I should admit also I don't use a hauppauge remote, I just happen to have read that thread.
