DON'T PANIC, is what I thought first. and second...

I have a auvitek tv stick, it came at one time with presto pvr, it did not install properly no disc.
So this looked, like an option.

It did not seem to want me to work it, in fact it would not close, I had to do a restart to kill it.

Anyone brave enough to explain this beast to me?

I would suggest you cruise over to the wiki and review the setup instructions. It is possible to setup and get GB-PVR up and running without a tuner device. Take a little time reviewing the guides. Test it out, and review the support forum sticky on how to best post support requests (i.e. system info, posting logs, ect.) Finally, try to formulate better descriptions in your posts. Short "broken English" statements give little clues as to what problems you are dealing with.

Good luck.

There is two applications at this site. The older GBPVR, which is no longer maintained or updated, or the newer NPVR. The device you're using is not common, and I'm not sure of it's capabilities, but:

If it does ATSC, it'll work automatically in NPVR for ATSC. In the older GBPVR you'll probably need to add a definition for this device in the bda.ini file.

If the device does Analog (and you need this capability), things are more complicated. It is incompatible with GBPVR for analog (due to the lack of hardware MPEG2 encoder). It would work with NPVR, but only if you get the Hauppauge SoftPVR components installed on your machine (as describe here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...READ!!!!**).

@blake2go: this is a better way to get help.

At this poing I'd suggest starting with NPVR. As sub explains, GB-PVR is the past. NPVR may still be beta, but the current release with the latest patches (all contained in the thread sub linked) works quite well.

So read the getting started sticky, install it and the cumulative patch archive, and see how you get on. Yes, you will have to learn some things along the way, it's not a 3-clicks and you're done sort of thing. Do your best to figure things out, and then post in the NPVR forum when you get stuck.

I could go buy a TV set and be done.

But being a masochist, I'll try it your way.

So I should remove GB pvr?
and get the other.

It is the usb TV stick and digital broadcasts that I am interested in.
Amazing how many bright people who have given of their skills to make and put out freeware.

But in the realm of TV tuners, there is no kindness... says a lot about TV!?

Thank you to those brave folks who have ventured to speak with me here.
Old cold and tired, I tend to roar any more.
Bon Chance!

The two can co-exist, but since you're not using GB-PVR anyway you may as well uninstall GB-PVR.

Basic setup steps:

0. read the npvr getting started sticky; also have a look at the configuration documentation: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...figuration (yes, it's incomplete, but coming along)
1. make sure you have the pre-requisite windows software installed (listed in the npvr sticky)
2. install npvr, and then copy in the cumulative update files
3. launch nextpvr. it should go right into settings, but if it doesn't just right-click and select "settings"
4. on the devices screen enable your atsc tuner and do a channel scan. delete or disable the channels you don't want
5. on the channels screen link each channel to your EPG source; you can start with the broadcast epg option; then update epg
6. on the recordings screen set the paths where you want recordings and livetv buffers written - make sure those paths exist
7. on the decoders screen make sure you select an hd-capable mpeg-2 video decoder, as well as mp2 and ac3 audio decoders

exit settings, restart nextpvr and enjoy.
