I have been repeatedly getting this error lately.  Every once in a while I'll find my computer more or less frozen.  Standard opp for this is to shutdown and restart.  Well, this is where this error keeps coming up.  After I command a shut down a few of the normal things happen and then this error pops up.  In the title bar it says "Gbpvr.exe - DLL Initialization Failed" and in the window it has the red circular 'X' with "The application failed to initialize because the windows station is shutting down" written next to it.  This window keeps coming back when closed and because of this my machine won't fully shut down with out turning it off on the front of the console (ie the way your not supposed to do it).  So I do it because it is the only option I have found to get around this, it reboots and all is well.

After a while of observing this happening I am 99% sure this is related to gbpvr waking my machine from standby which it is set to go into after 2 hrs. of idle.  I say this because it only seems to happen on days where I have a recording scheduled for when I'm not arround, so my computer is likely to be in standby when it starts.  It is also worth noting, that other than this my machine is VERY stable.  I think I may of had to shut it down the wrong way once other than this over the two years I've had it.

See sig for setup, here is a copy of my gbpvr.exe.log that was taken just after a reboot as described.  If this isn't the log you need, or if you need anything else to help with this one, just let me know...I would love to get this taken care of!!

Thanks for any help you can offer!!

I suspect this happens because the MVP process is being killed by the windows shutdown procedure. The Recording Service notices the MVP process has died, then it tries to restart it - which will give the "The application failed to initialize because the windows station is shutting down" message.

The request for a shutdown only comes after the problems (whatever they are) have already started. I'll come up to my computer after being away for many hours (giving time to go into and be woken out of a standby with a recording) and it will flake out in a matter of seconds. Not even enough time for my browser to fully open if that's the first thing I do. At this point the only thing that will respond is task manager and thats why my only option (that I know of) is to reboot which it looks like gbpvr.exe is preventing me from doing with this error.

^^^^Good question^^^^

FWIW, I do have restore on and I have autostart set to 1.

So the only way around this is to not allow my computer to go into standby mode and/or (?) switch autostart to 0??

I can see either of these solutions working, but they both seem like band-aids to me. Isn't there some way to actually fix what's going on here rather than just avoiding the situation that causes it??

Thanks for all the help everyone

Dustin(or anyone else) Have you found a solution to this. I have had it happen from time to time and now it seems to happen almost everytime I have to shutdown. I usually just leave the system running so I don't get the problem, but I have been upgrading and had to reboot a lot lately. I use 1 MVP so maybe that is part of the issue. Before it started into the looping problem, I used to see it flash something about "Ending program..... gbpvr" on a reboot. I don't know if this is related but now when windows comes up, there is minimized GB-PVR box in the lower left hand corner of the desktop. When I maximize it it says "This process asts as a server for Media MVP...." The odd thing is that it just started doing this at the same time as I have had the shut down problems. Any ideas?
