I have just put GBPVR on a fresh XP sp3 install with the saf codec pack, powerdvd 4 (yeah, old but good), VLC, and the software for my usb TV tuner. Almost everything's working great. I can watch TV, all the avi and mp4 files I have, I can also record TV. What I can't do is watch TV programs that GBPVR has recorded (but I can watch live TV). I can watch them in MPC-HC, but not GBPVR. It doesn't make sense to me at all. All the decoders are set to system default, except for AC3 and mpeg which are set to cyberlink. Any hints?

Ok, I've figure out that for some reason the cyberlink decoder won't work for playback of recorded files but it seems to work for everything else. Go figure. It's same because it's a really fast codec. Anyone got any recommendations for suitable mpeg codecs?

There are some free mpeg codecs linked from this wiki page. Most people seem to use Cyberlink (Power DVD), ffdshow, ATI MPEG-2.

Bear in mind that there's not a one size fit's all codec answer. Best thing is to try a range of them.

After installing the latest xp sp3 updates, switching to DVR-MS multiplexing, it all seems to be working properly. Not quite sure exactly what made the difference. I'm not going to touch those settings anymore!
