I did a fresh install of NPVR to replace my long-running (3y) install of GBPVR. All seemed to work pretty well. Because I have an older system, I played around a bit with the Video Renderer setting in the Decoders section, trying VMR7 and VMR9. It looked like EVR worked best with lowest CPU use, so I set it back to that. At that moment, I noticed that I had lost all OSD during playback. I mean ALL OSD. Nothing when I pause, nothing when I pause live tv.

Another matter, that seems related is that I can't change the aspect ratio for playback anymore. F7 has no effect and even using the right click popup menu for aspect ratio changes nothing.

After some experimenting, it looks like selecting Overlay is the only way to bring my aspect ratio control and OSD back. None of the other renderers work. I have even completely scrapped the NPVR program and data directories and reinstalled from scratch without any positive effect. What's going on? I have seen exactly the same behavior in an earlier version of GBPVR. That only fixed itself after an update to a new version.

Moving the mouse over video playback or live tv should be enough to get the OSD to appear. If its not doing it there, then reproduce the problem and post the npvr.log and I'll see if anything stands out.

I have also seen this happen with older graphic cards with small video-ram.

Yeah, its probably worth you telling us what graphics card you have, and what resolution you're running your desktop at.

I had this problem with a video card I didnt know only had 64 MB RAM. All was ok when used on a 1360X768 display but on a 1920X1080 display no OSD. Problem solved by using card with 128 MB or more.

These are some great tips. I'm using 1360x768 on a pretty ancient ATI on board IGP 9100. Not really sure how much memory it has. I'll check when I get home tonight.
