That's robbery! I'm not with Comcast but Cox charges me $1.98 for each card. I think anything over $5 is unfair. Some ISP's give you the first card free.
If you're curious, visit the Tivo forum and ask. There's actually a thread started in 2006 that is still going discussing the price as well as many other problems.

I also just found this on Comcast's site. I'm curious whether the different Comcast cities have different charges.

donschjr Wrote:How much is Comcast charging you guys for a cablecard? I called last night as I was getting ready to order a 2650 and they told me it was $9.25 a month for a cablecard. I thought the fee was supposed to be minimal like $2, $9.25 on top of the $117 I pay a month is ridiculous, I feel I pay to much now.

With Comcast here in St. Paul, MN, the CableCards are FREE (both for the 1st one and any additional ones). Plus, since the cable service package includes a set-top device (which I didn't get since I'm only using the CableCard), I get a $2.50 "customer owned equipment discount" each month. (Of course, that just means that the monthly service fee is jacked up $2.50, but hey, you have to take what you can get in the cable game.)

Thanks for he info and the site, I'll call again and use it to beat them over the head. I was so infuriated I started work on an email to my local senator.

I get charged $6.45 for "Digital Additional Outlet Charge" which costs $7.95 - $1.50 customer owned credit.
What, me worry?

I got my DCR and cablecard today, the ladie at the comcast office also said there was no charge for the first cablecard. I have the the card runnig and got it paired after they escalated because the first tech couldn't get it working. I'm making my first recording now but so far it's showing no 0 bytes Sad

Appears the first recording problem was a fluke, I've now made 3 successful recordings in a row so I'm reasonably confident that everything is working as it should.
