I have 3 tuner cards and all 3 of them are having trouble recording a specific channel. I have been recording this channel with these tuner cards for several years without any problems. Lately, it has stopped recording properly. I can still watch the channel live through GBPVR. Most other channels can still be watched/recorded without any problems (there are a couple that have failed in the past, but I rarely watch anything on them so it has never bothered me). I use dvr-ms files (with the Microsoft DVR-MS DBA multiplexer) because the .ts files do not play well on my computer.

When the recording starts on this problemed channel, a 6kb file is created and comskip starts. Several seconds later, a second file with the same name as the recording (plus a “-1”) is created. It usually stops at 6k in size as well.

I’ve tried several things to fix this. I started by rescanning and mapping the problemed channel to the new tuning info. I cannot see anything different in the tuning request data, but this work for a while. However, the tuner assignment always eventually went back to a copy of the channel earlier in the list of channels on the channel mapping and the problem would reappear (this happened without me doing it…recording problems would happen and I would check the config utility to find the tuning request set to the first instance of the channel rather than the second, more recently created one). Perhaps this is a sign that the tuning info really was the same and it worked just due to coincident.

Given that there were multiple listings of the channels from multiple scans in the channel mapping program, I also tried deleting all 3 tuner cards and adding just one device. This did not work…I still have problems recording even after completely getting rid of all the old data and only adding one device. I’ve attached logs in case they help.

I have major codec problems on WinXP that have prevented me from upgrading to nPVR, so sorry to post to a legacy program’s forum, but I’m hoping someone can help me solve this problem so I can hang on with GBPVR another year before I upgrade (plan to get a Win7 machine then).

Its probably a case of the broadcast PIDs changing for that channel. Try temporarily recording to .ts instead to see if it starts working. When you record .ts files it doesnt need to know the PIDs.

It does record to .ts just fine. Unfortunately, I have tried dozens of combinations of decoders and renderers and none play audio/video smoothly. However, the file I just made on my problemed channel with the TS mux plays beautifully in VLC video play, so I know it recorded properly. Any idea how to get around the PID or is this just one of those things I will have to live with until I can play .ts files on my machine?

By the way...thanks for having mercy on us poor saps that have not moved to your new program. It must kill you to support both programs, but it sure is appreciated!

From memory you'd need to got to the channel mapping screen, rescan for channels, then change the mapping for this channel to some other channel, then back and it'll update the tuning request of the newly found channel details.

All this stuff is heaps easier on NextPVR. I'm just saying...

Well, that appears to do it. So I'll have to do this each time the broadcaster changes the PID and the problem resurfaces?

Trust me, I believe you that the NextPVR program is better…I tried really hard to switch to it when it was in beta and I have tested every new release since, but just can’t get the files to play back smoothly on my WinXP machineSad. Perhaps this is evidence to present to the wife that I need a better computer! It sounds like it works great with the EVR renderer on Win7.

Thanks again for your help! I’ve been fighting this all day…sure wish I had posted earlierRolleyes.
