Hi again Sub, and others.

I did search, and I suppose someone has asked already, but there's 24K threads in this forum alone!

Are there any steps/suggestions to migrate from GB to Next? I'd perfer to keep GB running as I setup and tweak Next and then switch when all meets the W.A.F.?

Can the two recording services/settings/databases co-exist? Can I simply shut down one service while working on the other version, and then switch back by restarting the other service?

Can I just backup the old directory and restore if needed? (I did this during previous updates, but installs were in the same folder.)

I just remember it took a few days to get Closed Captioning working (required) and then tweaking comskip, transcoding and file renaming and pushing to the NAS.

Once all is good, I'll then shutdown (uninstall?) GB, but until then, I'm told I can't miss recording an episode of Criminal Minds. :o

Thanks!

yes. In fact you can leave them running at the same time as long as you don;t let them both try and record from the same tuner at the same time.

No need. npvr lives in its' own folder. You can keep gbpvr installed and running until you are happy with npvr.

Also, check this short thread for comments.

Awesome. Thanks gEd!

Exactly what I was looking for.

I had a feeling that was the case, but I wasn't sure if there were some registry settings, shared dlls, or other changes that might get stomped. Now I know.

I've had both running side by side for months now with no problem noticed at all.

So If I am setting up NPVR you are saying as long as I dont let it record something that GBPVR is recording I should be fine. What about viewing channels? Can NPVR view a channel other than what GBPVR is currently recording at the same time? Thanks.

It's not so much what's recording or being watched - you cant have both applications use the same capture device at the same time. One will have failures you attempt this.
