I think I've isolated my remote control issues to being an issue with the IR Receiver (hard to believe something that seems so simple being the issue, but thats where I'm at in debugging it). Can I use a standard IR receiver (like this http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10266 or http://www.radioshack.com/product/index....Id=2049727) and standard 1/8" stereo TRS jack to make a replacement? This site makes it seem possible http://www.irblaster.info/hauppauge_ir.html. Has anyone tried?

I should also point out that I am attempting to use an old 34 button Hauppauge remote (verified this is working by using it successfully with my MVP) and IR receiver that came with my PVR150 card with my new dual tuner 2250 card.

that ir led should work, but note: "Molded 2.5mm stereo connector" NOT a 3.5 mm [standard headphone] jack...[very hard to find]
and technically it's a 4 wire, unlike a headphone, if you want blasting... that one in pic only works for receiving..
[note the 4 contacts on haupp. barrel, not 3 like for stereo]

and i'm not sure shorting the blast pins is a good idea.[need connector with 4 contacts, otherwise last one is shorted to its mate]
those cables should be available somewhere online cheap..[real ones]

also, some of the old pvr150's had defective ir leds from factory, so a new one might be needed anyways...
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie

I do not need to blast...only receive. I'm assuming the jack and cable are good and the receiver is bad...so, my plan was to salvage the hauppauge jack and cable (ohm it out to make sure it is ok) then wire up the new receiver. So now you raise a question...if I will find 4 wires in that cable how do I connect them to my 3 pin receiver?

Thanks for the heads up!!

For the record, the Sparkfun IR receiver worked perfect!! I'm back up and running remote!
