I have been using gbpvr/npvr for years and now I am stuck at a fork in the road due to Comcast. Basically what I have concluded in order for me to be able to continue to record the shows of my choosing providing they aren't protected, I either need to invest in one of four devices. A Hauppauge HD-PVR, Colossus, 2650, or a Ceton card. Due to its ability of being able to record multiple tv shows I am leaning towards the Ceton card, but based off of what I have been reading the 2650 might be the "better" choice. Is it too soon to do a comparsion of the two or do they both pretty much provide the same result?

I have a 2650 and it is now pretty stable. Really most of my issues have been happening when returning from S3 sleep. I moved to S1 and they have seemed to go away. I kind of wish I would have gone to a Prime with 3 tuners. The 2650 and Prime are natively supported in NPVR, but the Ceton needs to use a network tuner plugin (unless something has changed). I have heard good things about the Ceton cards on other forums. Before you do anything, check to understand to what extent Comcast copy flags programs. The networks should not be flagged, but everything else might be. If they are flagged and you still want to record them, you will have three choices. 1)You either use a STB and HD-PVR/Colossus,
2)a cablecard tuner with NPVR and a network recording plugin, and watch it in WMC7
3)a cablecard tuner with WMC7 and watch it in WMC7

Also beware that the cable companies can change their policies on flagging the non-major network stuff whenever they feel like it.

I bought the internal version of the Ceton and it works very well. I've had very few problems with it.
A few months ago, my brother in law changed jobs and got the USB version and gave it to me. It's ok but right now, I'm having some missed recordings due to it losing it's USB connection at times and Ceton has duplicated this problem and are working on it. Their communication and help are very, very good (so far) and they do seem to want to keep us happy especially in light of their competition.

The internal does get hot especially if recording 4 shows at a time. I added a small, 'card slot' fan next to it to keep it cooler and that's worked well though I have never gone above their operational temp ceiling.
I don't know much about the Prime except that I have an HDHR and it's worked well. Silicon also seems to have good support.

Thanks for the quick replies guys...Didn't know about a prime device. I would prefer to use everything through npvr, but I guess at this point not much of a choice to use 7MC if I want to work with encrypted content.
