Hi,

Good question! I tried it two different ways, on purpose now to make sure - 1) inside the network, but using the external IP, and 2) truly outside the network (using the same external IP). There is a difference! Here is what I see,

1) This case struggles, waits a very long time or times out. Is this expected? BTW, it still asks for a login, seeing it as an external interface, but something isn't happy ... Sad. It does work a bit better for the "normal" (non-mobile) interface, but still some issues.
2) This works better, but still some issues. Here the non-mobile interface seems pretty clean, but there are issues in the mobile interface - for the TV Guide I keep getting "There was an error processing the request".

And a bit unrelated, but I do see some minor issues in the mobile interface. For example, if I search for a show (e.g. Feherty), it misses some entries. If I force to only the channels I know it's on - then it seems to work. Make sense? And this doesn't seem to happen on the "normal" interface.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

This is probably a router thing... some routers including mine (I have the quantum gateway router for FiOS) know that the external IP is really the WAM ip of the router and keep the traffic local....which can confuse things in the network. I have to test through my hot-spot from my phone when I want to truly test outside of my network when I am at home.

I don't know a lot about that mobile interface....it is maintained by another person. There is a support thread for it within the NEWA support thread. It is stuck towards the top so you should be able to find it and post in there and see what he comes back with. You will need to post your logs too.

Again...post a separate item in the mobile support thread for this search issue. You will need to post the logs for when the search fails.

So the native interface (i.e. you switch to guide2.aspx from the mobile interface) works ok then when coming in truly external?

Hi,

Completely agree with you on #1 - I was thinking the same thing. It usually works for web sites, but you're right that it can confuse things. And I'm also using a Quantum FIOS router, so likely seeing the same thing ... Wink.

Will separately post #2 - sorry, I admit I didn't realize it was a different person. My misunderstanding!

So to your question - yes, it seems to work when truly external (not mobile, different issue though as you note). Next I want to not use a different port, have IIS redirect to 8866. I tried it before, and had issues, but that may have been the router confusion thing. Will try it again now.

BTW, one minor thing I do see (sometimes, not real consistent). I sometimes lose the "Episode Search" item at the top. I know, that sounds odd ... Smile. If I log out and back in, it usually comes back. Or if I change interfaces (CSS, HTML), then I get it back. Real minor, but just so you know. Overall I really think this is awesome, extremely helpful. Thanks!!!

Yea... there are still some bugs in CSS where you can have things like that happen.

I don't support running NEWA through IIS... to many complexities get introduced. NPVR is running its own web host (obviously) and it supports everything needed. I am not sure if anyone ever got it working via IIS.

Yep, makes complete sense! My problem is that when I'm off my network (i.e. at work), only port 80 is available / open, and I have other web sites running there under IIS -> have to try to share it ... Sad.

Thanks!

Yea....that won't work well with multiple things running on the same port.....

I know others have tried but not sure anyone got it to work....

Makes sense. I'll fight with it - if I do get it working I'll be sure to report back, try to help others out.

Thanks!
