Depends on what exactly you're doing. Search for a "HDPVR" section. You'll see a "Mode720p" subsection, a "Mode1080i" subsection etc. Each subsection has a bitrate setting. I just set all of them to 9 million. What are you feeding to the 1212? HDMI? Component? Composite? You can probably tell what resolution you're getting by asking some other piece of software. VideoRedo should have some way to tell. Anyway, just fiddle with the bitrate until you're happy and it works for you.
The Live TV thing: I've never tried to do a recording and Live TV at the same time with a single tuner. You would think it would work. Do You get live TV while not recording? If not, that's the place to start. If so, maybe it just doesn't like to save the stream to a file while at the same time displaying it as live. But I'm pretty sure you can play a recording while it's in progress. So instead of hitting Live TV, just select the current recording from the "Recordings" menu and watch it. But like I say, if you don't get a picture when just doing Live TV, start there. And always post logs and tell us exactly what time to look for in the logs. Saves some hunting.
