Well, OK. I admit I do not totally understand that explanation, but it looks to me that the best way to playback the recordings made with my FTA receiver is with that receiver. It does not have the one minute jumps to get past commercials. I have to fast forward through them. But it still does play the recordings.
Thanks for the info.

The PMT is basically it a small header inside the .ts file that normally says something like "channel number 1 is present and has video stream is number 553, and the audio stream 602". In your example .ts file, the PMT says "channel number 1 is present, but has you no streams".

Maybe look if your set top box has any options that controlling it's recordings.

Like i posted a quick command line remux will fix this. I suggest looking for ts4np since it was designed for generic satellite capture file problems but ffmpeg -acodec copy -vcodec copy should work.

Well, now I understand. Very interesting.
As for any controls for the recordings with the FTA receivers, most are so cheaply made you are lucky if they work. One of my units that would be considered a "high quality" device that cost much more than most, is in the repair shop for the second time. Good thing it has a two year warranty.
Guess I will just be happy I can get recordings to play with what recorded them.
Thanks for all the information.

Yeah, mvallevand was absolutely right with

mvallevand Wrote:a quick command line remux will fix this

but if you don't want to mess with DOS prompts, you can open it in Avidemux and then save it out as another .TS file. Just make sure Video Output and Audio Output are each set to "Copy" and Output Format is set to "Mpeg TS Muxer (ff)".

Also, there isn't a second program in this stream; that was a false positive. When I remuxed your uploaded video the resultant file had only one program and was within 2MiB of the original's size.

The ts4np program I suggested has a GUI. https://www.videohelp.com/download/Ts4Np_082.zip

I did a search the other day and found the TS4NP but have not had the time to "mess" with it. I will have time on Saturday and will see what results I get on various files from my FTA receiver.

I took several recordings from my FTA receiver and used both Ts4NP and Avidemux to "fix" what was wrong with the recordings so they would work with Nextpvr. Both programs did the job and the recordings now play with Nextpvr. The big difference I found with the two programs was that Avidemux looked like it ran in real time. That was a problem if you had a multi hour recording. The Ts4NP ran through a four hour recording in about 22 minutes. (warp speed). Maybe Avidemux can be set to run faster, but I did not find out how.
Very interesting on solving this problem of FTA recordings.
