IPTV M3U8 multiple audio track issues

NextPVR pass an IPTV stream to the client largely unmodified. It could have one or more audio tracks. It'll send the same stream to Kodi as it would to VLC. It sounds like a Kodi issue if it's unable to play the stream that is playing fine in VLC.

hi, can I understand... does NextPVR v5 server (on ubuntu) play an M3U stream and pass the audio and video to a client or does it pass the link for the client to play directly? (thinking specifically of Emby App). It matters as I have my server on a VPN secured machine but my clients are not specifically secured...

Emby is a a bit more complicated since it is server to server not server to client.  Streams are typically passed by links to the NextPVR server, not the IPTV provider. If you use the NextPVR addon it will be links to live tv, links to a recording, and optionally the addon can pass the filename for recordings. If you have Emby configured to use an m3u tuner, the links are fake live tv, so recordings don't involve NextPVR.

Martin, thanks for the reply and apologies... you are dealing with a non-tech person! Just to clarify ... does my NextPVR server manage everything and the NextPVR v5 app that I have added to Emby simply 'renders' whatever the server provides to it or does the NextPVR app use the emby M3U functionality to bypass the NextPVR server and stream the links directly? (so with xTeVe it can do both ... so I just wish to know what NextPVR is doing?) Thank you

@Pseudomax I don't comment on network security. By default behind a router with normal use of NextPVR is pretty secure. If you expose NextPVR to the Internet, or want to remain anonymous with a VPN you need to do research, since you may need necessarily be as safe as you think you are. Mistakes are easy to make.

I am trying to understand (factually) how NextPVR server interacts with other apps/clients. The key question is whether NextPVR server operates simply as a resource for clients to be given a URL and then they take this and stream directly (in otherwords if I had a M3U file with a link to another country and I was travelling for work; then if I connected to the server to watch a channel, does the server provide the content to the client or does the client get directed to the originator content and play directly?)

My first post explained it, the stream link is to NextPVR which means the media data is streamed from NextPVR.

Emby Client <-> Emby Server <-> NextPVR Server -> source tuner or URL.

If it helps the Emby addon on the Emby server does not access IPTV address directly, however those source links could show up in Emby logs.

If you have an m3u list of channels setup in NextPVR, and you're away travelling, and you try to view a channel (through the web app, or a client), your client will be communicating with and getting the stream from your NextPVR server. (Behind the scenes, the server is getting the stream from the source)
