I've had this issue periodically in the past, but it's gone away w/either time or a PC reboot.. but now it seems to be persisting. Any suggestions for what i can do to either further diagnose this problem or avoid the "MVP Exception: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine" ?

What's observed is that the MVP does the "connecting servers" for a little bit, then stops as if it's about to go show the gbpvr menu, and then repeats. On the PC in task manager, i can see the gbpvr.exe process start, grow, and die, and repeats.

So far, I've tried resetting the gbpvr service, the pc and the mvp; made sure my NIC was at 100Mb; next i'm going to kick the router and defrag my recordings disk..

here's the snippet from gbpvr.exe.log :

sorry--meant to put that in OP .. PIII-400 w/325MB and normal IDE drives (Win2k) -- so it's on the low end, but it's been working fine for a couple/few months now (menus via the mvp are usually a tad laggy, but no big deal for my usage)..
Network topology is just the PC and MVP both plugged directly into a 100mb router.

PIII-400 - ouch!

Basically, your machine is taking too long to load the list of recordings so GB-PVR doesnt manage to respond to the MVP within the allowable time period (about 8 seconds).

Basically, your machine is taking too long to load the list of recordings so GB-PVR doesnt manage to respond to the MVP within the allowable time period (about 8 seconds). This causes the MVP to disconnect.

You could try removing some of your recordings so that the list loads faster. By moving the videos into a different directory, GB-PVR will delete them from the Recordings list, but they will still be accessible via the Videos library.

Thanks! that's what i needed -- to know where the delay was (explains why it only happened occaisionally as well).. I'll move stuff around (i use Video Archive so i'm not worried about losing descriptions or anything) this afternoon after the defrag finishes and toss a followup up here then.

(just out of technical curiousity--i'll stick w/the moving solution) Is that 8 seconds in anyway configurable? Or is it a MVP firmware thing? (or a .NET socket connection thing)

y, the PIII-400 is a little pokey, and i was worried about it at first (i didn't plan to make a HTPC--got a PVR-250 for christmas), but was very happy to find gb-pvr and have it work relatively smoothly.. It's only the menus that are laggy -- actual recording and playback (including ff/rw & com skip) work prefectly smooth.

No, its just something Hauppauge must have coded into the MVP firmware.
