If you don't know what to look for in your dmesg output you will need to post that too.

My tuner channels appear to be up-to-date, though I allow scan on one of the old frequencies, just in case  (this is for Madison, WI Channel 3...they were slow in the changeover and still have some issues...)

He's got it working, people know their virtual numbers (ie 3.1) and typically don't know the physical channels.
