Do you mean ParallelProcessing.bat? It is run as soon as a recording begins, but that may be too late because the recording file needs to be created before the recording starts.

He referenced a batch file so I was looking at the wiki - batch files page. Perhaps that us where PreStartup.BAT belongs since it is a BATCH file. What do you think?

You are looking at the old v4 wiki. v4 only ran on Windows so it only used "batch" files. But v5 runs on multiple platforms so the wiki entry is now labeled with the generic "scripts". For Windows based servers, these will be batch files with a .bat suffix. For Linux based servers, these will be shell scripts with a .sh suffix.

NextPVR is multi platform and only windows use batch files which is a script file and so it is the right place . You are free to participate on the wiki and help clean up links however you were on the v4 wiki

Using the net use command in the batch file did not work because a user can not have multiple connections to a server and a connection between the NAS and NextPVR user account already exists (maybe because the NextPVR service is stared with with a user account that is connected to the NAS):

C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\scripts>net use \\nus2000\Media2 media2 /USER:Media2

System error 1219 has occurred.

Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again.

If I delete the connection between the NAS and (I guess) the recording service before initiating a recording with the PreStartup.bat file in place, then the same errors occur (incorrect user name or password).

This is very vexing.

Update

I restarted the computer and I was able to successfully initiate a quick recording using a directory on a NAS drive for the recording directory with the PreStartup.bat file in place (in the scrips directory). Don not know if a timer initiated recording will work as well yet.

Timer initiated recordings initiate (and complete) successfully without errors.

That is what I figured, but you might have issues accessing that folder as a real users. Do you really need to password protect this folder on a local LAN?
