Ufw blocking HDHomeRun discovery

Hi, I am a newbie to Linux. I tried installing nextpvr on Linux mint 22.3, it works fine if I turn off ufw. When ufw is on the tuners become unavailable. I use this tuner on Windows 10 with no issues. I can’t figure out what ports need to be opened on ufw to make the tuner available. The tuner is a hdhomerun connect duo. I have tried this by installing with the Deb files method and the Docker method. If I can’t get this straightened out by fall I will reluctantly buy a Windows 11 machine before my Windows 10 ESU are expired. I also have a hdhomerun dual tuner which I believe is considered legacy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance. Emmgee

Do you need to run UFW on your home network and don't you have a router between you and the Internet? You likely wouldn't firewall it on Windows or you end up with the same problems.

Thanks for getting back to me. My Linux Mint machine is plugged in directly to the ISP router. My Windows 10 machine is also plugged in the same ISP router but also has Norton installed which is running instead of Windows Defender. Nextpvr works great on the Windows 10 machine. Is running Linux Mint without ufw behind the ISP router adequate protection for my home network? If I convert my Windows 10 machine to Linux Mint, should I at least run ufw on it as my daily driver?

Often the router is adequate if you aren't exposing ports to the Internet but I am not about to guide you on what makes you feel secure AI can probably help you there are several UDP and TCP ports and IPs nvolved or you can ask on the HDHR forum.

Thank you for taking the time to help me understand. I try to learn a little each day. One more question, is the any advantage to running Nextpvr in Docker vs. Deb file installation? Thank you and have a good night.

Some people like running Docker containers. That do add complexity to running Next PVR with tuners, including hdhr discovery and OTA EPG updates and hw transcoding, and I don't see a benefit if your server Debian based but with other distros that would be different.
