I installed the newest version of GBPVR recently and noticed something strange with my set up. I have 2 capture cards - a pvr150 and a pvr250. When I configured the program, I was having problems with the recordings - the size of the recordings were 0kb. So I was checking to make sure the cards were set as device 1 and 2 and not both as 1, and decided to switch the order. After I switched the order, the recording works perfectly - no problems at all.

The initial configuration was as follows:
PVR150 - device #1
PVR250 - device #2

So I then switched the device number arrangement to:
PVR150 - device #2
PVR250 - device #1

and now everything works.

Whats the problem? Sounds like you set it up incorrectly the first time, then configured it correctly.

i had the program set up with the capture cards configured as i said above. i had it set up correctly both times - i'm certain of that because once i switched the device numbers for my cards, it worked fine. the only change made was the device numbers - in both instances, both cards had been set up as pvr150, pvr250 with different device numbers.

I still dont understand what you're saying the problem is?

If you have a PVR150 and PVR250 in your machine, one of them will be device #1 and one of them will be device #2. There is no way to predict which is which, but you have to get it right for things to work. So you initially guessed, but got it wrong and things didnt work (because it treated PVR150 as a PVR250 and the PVR250 as a PVR150). You then switch the device number and the application then treated the cards as the correct type, and everything worked as expected. Sounds like the normal behaviour to me.

sub is right (as always).

From what I understand, the device numbers depend on which PCI slot the cards are in, inside the PC i.e their physical location on the PCI bus.

Search other threads, this came up 3 or 4 months ago.

oh so the device numbers of the devices cannot be chosen arbitrarily? I was under the assumption that it wouldn't matter which order they were placed in, just as long as they were correctly chosen in the configuration tool.

Yes, it does matter. This is used to tell GB-PVR which card is of which type. Its only really important for mixed combinations of PVR150/PVR500's and PVR250/350's. This isnt a problem for other card manfucaturer's devices, or if you have multiple of the same type of Hauppauge card.
