I am trying to figure out why live TV on GBPVR only runs for a few minutes before

crashing my PC

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=7230

and was looking through the logs to see if anything looks like if could be a possible
cause. Looking at the gbpvrrecordingservice.exe.log it seemed strange to me that it
keeps repeating SourceConfigurationContainer.LoadAll() every couple of seconds. Could
anyone confirm if this is normal or indicates a problem?

Finally managed to get an example of the log showing a crash whilst trying to view live

TV from my MVP only lasted a few seconds then crashed locking up the pc requiring a
power cycle.

A file was created in R:\gbpvr\buffer called TV-1-320050719_2201.mpg with a size of
288KB which only seems to be one low quality frame.

Does this log give any big clues as to what is happening? any help appreciated.

Thanks

Marc

When you say it 'crashes your PC', what actually happens?

No thats normal. The log message is removed in the next release.

Thanks for helping Sub,

When I say the PC crashed, what I have is a PC that has a frozen mouse and will not respond to the keyboard, all I can do is turn the power off.

Up till now previous attempts to watch live TV through MVP has only resulted in the service crashing and restarting the recording service would get things working again till the same result. Attempts to watch TV on the PC has always resulted in a lock up.
I should say here that the PC has proved stable at all other times.

Trying again tonight allowed me to watch TV(from the MVP) for a few minutes and change channels creating 2 files in the buffer TV-1-120050720_2014.mpg of 8.62MB and TV-1-220050720_2013.mpg of 5.54MB. These files are playable.

I have enclosed the log file for this attempt as it seems to contain more information, having lasted longer and showing that a change of channel has created another file hopefully this shows if things appear to happening in the correct sequence and that files are being buffered on the disk in the correct method.

If your machine is locking hard like this, then you're most likely having driver problems. Try updating your capture device's drivers. Also make sure its not sharing an IRQ with anything else, as this seems to cause problems with some chipsets.

Hi Sub,
thanks for your continued help with this, I have checked IRQ's which look fine and updated the drivers / programs
as listed on the Hauppauge site for my pvr 150 card as page:

http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/s...0.html#app

I have deleted and recreated the capture source as it would not update the EPG, which is now working again.

There has been positive progress if not complete success. I can now watch live TV for 30 minutes
before a problem occurs (I had thought it had fixed the problem completely for a whole 29 minutes...) and the PC had not locked up, but was showing the attached error message. I have also taken these entries from the logs.

Do I need to delete and reinstall GBPVR completely too fully take on the Hauppauge update? Does this error message point to anything specific, or is this common branch point that it has failed at?

Thanks
Marc

An update on this. All is now working great after much hassle and trials and an unnecessary swap of the MVP.

So for anyone with this problem with an ASUS A7V880 motherboard this is what the fixes were.

Problem of PC locking up has been solved by disabling the Q-fan feature in the BIOS. Shame because this was one of the reasons I bought this motherboard for. Present BIOS version is 1009.001 which is the latest non beta available at the moment. (Original version on the board the Q-fan feature just did not work, but this was probably a better option if I had only known!

Second problem of MVP loosing connection solved by installing a NIC (IBM card which HAD to be set to AUTO rather than 100 full) rather than using the onboard network port (for which I had tried every variation of setting and checked drivers are current).

Result GBPVR is stable and working excellently just I had hoped. Just some minor tweaking to my preferences and learning how to use some of the features correctly to be done. Brilliant.
