Trouble setting up Hauppauge WinTV USB2

Howdy all! I just purchased the Hauppauge WinTV USB2 (on sale for $40, normally $100!) and am having a bit of trouble getting the channel changer configuration set up. No matter which option I choose it results in one of several errors when trying to watch live TV. The error is either:

1. "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

2. "Failed to locate configured capture device" (I know the device is working because the WinTV2000 software that was included works fine)

3. The program has a fatal error resulting in an abort/ignore/retry dialog box.

I've tried setting up a new profile in the USB-UIRT configuration where it asks me to point my remote at the IR receiver and push the 1 button until told to stop. I held the button for several minutes with no results.

If anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated, or if you have even the slightest idea on how to possibly resolve this issue I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance.

I think you have your tuner set up incorrectly. Make sure you select as Recording source to be Direct Recording Plugin. Click Settings and choose the Hauppauge USB2. Depending on your source, select Cable, Capture Device #1, and Internal Tuner.

For channel cahnger you do not have a USB-UIRT, select no channel changer required. Then go to the DVD & Remote tab - click Fix 34 or 45 Hauppauge remote depending on the number of buttons your remote has.

Let the recording service restart. Try again, if it doesn't work make sure you reboot.

Also if you want EPG data, make sure you sign up for an account with labs.zap2it.com and configure that accordingly in config.exe

I have it setup just as you describe with no luck. On further research I've discovered that what I thought was a miracle purchase was too good to be true and actually has no hardware MPEG-2 encoding. Doh!!! I mistakenly thought that the WinTV USB2 was the WinTV PVR USB2. A warning to all those not familiar with these products: the Hauppauge WinTV USB2 is only a TV tuner. I saw on the GB-PVR main site that software MPEG-2 encoding is an option on some capture devices, but it's just not the same as hardware. I believe I will be exchanging this for a PVR 150 or equivalent after a few more days of effort to make it work. Thanks though.
