DirecTV - Best remote?

I have been testing all of the versions of this type of software (BeyondTV, SageTV, Meedio, GBPVR, and ran Windows MCE for a while). The free version is blowing away the competition in the field! (I plan on donating to help the cause).I even bought a new TV card just so I could test out GBPVR (it was not compatible with my Avermedia). I purchased the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 150 and have it running almost fine. I have a problem with the remote that came with the TV card and need some help.

The system I am running is with DirecTV. I have the WinTV-PVR 150 tv card and the Hauppauge remote. (I also have a MCE remote, but it seems to have stopped working properly since I tried installing it on my XP Pro system). My problem is when I hit the Hauppauge remote it changes to channel 4 and that is it. It does change the channel, but nothing else. On my DirecTV channel 4 is nothing, but it is the default channel for the TV. Any ideas on what I am missing on my set up? Or is this remote the best route for this set up? Can I use the Snapstream RJ6-DB9 Serial Cable for the hook up to make channel changing smoother?

Do you have the Hauppaueg codes set properly for remote blaster. Theres a piece of software "ir blaster config" that you need to make sure can turn on and off the external receiver.

The config for this capture card then will look for the signal using either the coax external receiver on a fixed channel or using one fo the other connection s-video. I would suggest using s-video since I ran into problems with getting sound synced properly from the coax (could have just been me).

Once thats done you need to make sure that the hauppauge remote blaster is set as the channel changer.

As far as the DB9 serial cable goes. Yes it can be used. Go to the wiki page and download the directv serial control program. You can use that as an alternative '.exe' channel changer. My experience is channel changing is significantly better (depends on the type of directv receiver as how good it is). I can help you get that piece going if you need help. If you're using the Hauppauge IR Blaster, you should configure your capture source to use the '.exe channel changer' and point it at c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\haupblast.exe instead of the built in 'Hauppauge IR Blaster Plugin' option.

I had the codes working, but the remote wouldn't work.

Setting the blaster as the exe worked and it works pretty good.

Is there a way to get GBPVR to know all the channels without having to set up every one manually?

In the config, what does 123 channels do?
