Windows Xp Firewall:

If you installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) It installed one for you. It also "re-enables" it on the sly sometimes, after an update.

Have a look in Control Panel, there will be something called "Windows Firewall" under the "Security Centre" section. (if you have a Classic Start Menu you will see it straight in Control Panel). If you double click that it will tell you if it is on or off.

Norton Antivrus Internet Worm Blocker
Not strictly a firewall on its own, but does BLOCK some malicious script requests just like a Firewall. Enable or permit those programs you KNOW are safe, like GBPVR.exe or GBPVRecordingService.exe

Others
You will (should) know if you have installed one:-)
e.g. Sygate,
Zonealarm
Norton Security

etc

I am using Windows 2000, gave gbpvr full access through Zonealarm and am not using any other firewall program. Now what? Any suggestions?

I'm sorry, but based on your error message, there is a firewall or something stopping GB-PVR from being able to connect to the zap2it service.

Quote:9/10/2005 12:05:58 AM.234 ERROR [284] Error UpdateEPG()'ing: The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server.

I do remember another user swearing black and blue that zone alarm was configured for full access, but they could not get it to connect to zap2it until they uninstalled zonealarm. I'm sure the problem could have been solved in zone alarm's config, but at least he got to the bottom of it.

There is no settings in GB-PVR you can tweak that will help. It just cant connect.

Have you opened the correct port(s) in your router (just guessing you have one..!!). Some modems by default block all but the most common ports. Check your modem speci's.

What ports need to be opened on the router?

I always get the "EPG source does not appear to be configured correctly" error message when I do an "Update EPG". I can't figure out why it's not working... no firewall, channel lineup set properly on Zap2it...

Here's the log:

07/12/2005 11:24:47 PM.203 VERBOSE [7] labelAction.Text = Requesting listing information from Zap2it.com
07/12/2005 11:24:47 PM.328 ERROR [126] Error UpdateEPG()'ing: Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.
The request failed with the error message:

Alright... I don't know what was wrong, but it's working now. Previous posts can be ignored.
