i had lockups too, although i do not use a motherboard with a via chipset.

when a lockup occured, always the whole machine freezed. pushing the reset button was the only 'solution'.
at first, it occured on a lot of occasions: e.g. switching channels "too fast" or while exiting live tv, etc.
sometimes i found my machine locked during a recording (with no interaction from me)

with never drivers from http://www.shspvr.com, it improved a bit. locking during recording never happened again and 'channel surfing' also did not lead to freezes anymore.

then i bought a second tuner (pvr-150). somehow the 150 was now the primary device and the 350 the secondary... so the tuner of the 150 was used almost every time when i watched live tv. --> no more lockups.

i was able to use my tv compy for several weeks without lockups anymore. then i switched to software decoding.
i used hardware decoding, 'cause it thought my machine was too slow for sofware decoding (i'm using a beamer hooked up either with a s-video or a standard vga-cable).
but when i finally tried it, everything worked fine. when displaying the mini browser over live-tv the image stutters a bit (only a second before the guide is displayed). but i can live with that *g*
AMD 1600mHz, 512 M RAM, 20+160 GB drive, Hauppauge PVR-350 + PVR-150 + PVR-150MCE, Win XP Pro SP3, using software decoding.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
