Using GB-PVR remotely

A few questions on this:

I can link into my home computer from work (had to use port 8080 because of company firewall).....can see home PC TV guide fine, and have done a couple of recordings successfully - can see them in manage recordings.

Question 1 - why can't I play them remotely? When I try to Play Program, my work PC reports I need a Codec, but what Codec does it need? (there's not much I'm allowed to install on this pc).

Question 2 - why didn't my Firewall ask someone at home to 'allow' me to connect from work via Port 8080? It just let me straight in.


Finally - any more ideas on this thread?

If you have video lan client installed, it will play.

I dont know. It sounds like you've not got a something set correctly in your firewall. Best you get that sorted.

RE Video LAn Client - why wont it play in Windows Media Player? I can't install anything else on this PC, though I might be able to put a sneaky codec on the PC.

This wasnt a feature I added. The guys that added it happen to use Video Lan Client, and wanted the stream using it.

Actually, that's one nice feature with VLC - You don't have to install it, just download and run...
