With the new release and the fix for the 30 second 'hiccup' in Timeshift mode I've been running in TS mode all the time. I've seen a number of situations where the display stops at the time of the program switchover (on the hour or half hour depending on the program).

Efforts to exit the display require several presses of the "back/exit" button and the system eventually displays an on-screen error message to the effect "Error Reading Playback File" (I don't have the message in front of me but I think that's it). Clicking OK returns to the main menu and operation can resume from there without a problem.

As I said this has happened a number of time, usually once a night or so, but not at every program changeover. I've run a thorough CHKDSK on the drive with the buffer on it and there no errors reported. I've looked in the carious logs and in the RecordingService log is an INFO entry for the changeover but no error of any kind.

I've been having this issue as well.. most of the time it works fine, but every now and then the picture just freezes, but strangely enough the audio keeps on going! I have to kill GBPVR in Task Manager. I've also noted that the memory usage for GBPVR.exe when this happens is very low.. around 15 megs or so.. very strange indeed.

btw, I guess both of us are using Purevideo decoders.. I would hate to think that's the problem.

I have reverted to preview mode because of this. There does not seem to be any pattern to it. Last night I was in preview mode but turned on TS mode for the StarGate-SG1/Stargate-Atlantis/Battlestart Gallactica block and it happened again about 15 seconds after the program switch from SGA->BSG. I had to keep pressing Back/Exit a dozen times or so and it finally dropped back to the menu so I could restart LiveTV.

I too am seeing this.. each night at 6:00pm, 6:30, 7:00 I see a short 10-20sec freeze on the screen then the picture normally resumes. Sometimes I get a playback error.

I thought I might have had a rogue 'check for updates every 30mins' task running in background but have been unable to see any such thing..

Is this a common issue across all users?

(I'm using VMR9custom at the moment so in constant timeshift mode)

VMR9custom means timeshift for you? It doesn't for me. Maybe I misunderstand you. Did you try other videorenderers and decoders? Could it be some plugin that is acting up every 30 mins.?

HtV,

It could be all those things.. I'm pretty sure I'm in timeshift all the time; from memory it's an option on the misc page. I.E. I user VMR9 I see the starting timeshift message everytime I go to watch telly.

I've been looking for the culprit.. but no luck as yet. The only non-standard plugin I have is weather which says it updates every 90mins. I can start disabling things and see how I go, but it'll be a long winded process as I only get a few attempts per night. (I'm working long hours at the moment).

If anyone knows of any 'known' task in gbpvr scheduled every 30mins.. it might help :-)

Will keep on it; I just wondered how many others are seeing the same issue!

I run in timeshift mode always because that is what the wife likes. I to get the short pause between programs when switching to the new file. I believe this is normal but mine only has a pause for a few seconds at most. I do recall that I had freezing issue several times a night when I was using Nvidia decoder and an earlier release of GBPVR. If I recall correctly I had to switch to a different decoder to solve the freezing on my setup.

Thanks for the info dark_half.

So far I've tried turning off iMom, MCE services, VMR9customer->VMR9->Overlay, EWA off, Weather plugin off, and I'm still going. I might try the elecard mpeg decoder if it continues over the weekend.. I'll get there!

Cheers

Turning them off might not be enough, there are plugins that keep acting up, only by being installed. To be sure, remove the appropriate files from the plugins dir.
