It was pulled from a mce 2004 computer..It was manufactured by HP..

It shows up as a usb device called eHome Infared Receiver using driver 5.1.2600.2180

It learns commands though gbpvr..but gbpvr doesnt turn the channels or anything . Could i use girder or hipsend to make it work with gbpvr?

The built in blaster stuff is only compatible with MCE2005 remotes, not MCE2004.

Maybe. Give it a go.

I get the feeling I read HIP has the same limitation, but I could be wrong.

I have That usb receiver. I have it working with Hip, and 'Hipsend.exe'. I tryed to use girder, but found that Hip worked easyer. you can find out how to set up 'hipsend.exe' on the wiki. the nice thing with this Usb receiver is that you can use it to function with any remote, you just need to teach it with hip. I too could get the receiver to work with GBPVR right out of the Box, but I needed to use Hip, so I could use hipsend to get it to change channels on my STB. pritty happy with it so far.

rereading the thread again.... Maybe I am useing something different to what you have??? My USB receiver/blaster combo is listed as a eHome transmitter in the device manager?? (came with my 150 card, the MCE package) should work the same with Hip, and or Girder.

All,

I just bought the real Microsoft MCE remote, receiver, and blasters. There is suport for it in config, but as everyone is saying, it does not change channels. I have the Hauppage MCE remote kit as well. It does not work either. Has anyone got this to work without using HIP? It programs (teaches) OK, but does not send the signals to the STB. I get a fault on GBPVR that states I have a weak signal when I try to change channels. The remote actually shows the number entry on the screen, but does not change the channels. MS Media Center works fine though. The BIN files are all in the proper folder. I tried HIP and was a bit annoyed/confused by the amount of setup. Maybe I was doing something wrong though.

I am exactly in the same boat.

The remote actually shows the number entry on the screen, but does not change the channels.

First of all, check out this page in the wiki and identify which remote you have. there's lots of confusion on the different remotes, and this can clear it up

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardware/MCERemotes

I have had both the Hauppauge MCE remote and the Microsoft MCE remote.

They both have beanbag receivers that you plug the ir blaster into. When I had the Hauppauge MCE remote, the one IR blaster would only work in one port, either 1 or 2, (I can't remember) I suspected a hardware fault.

Anyway, both of these remotes/beanbag combos worked with GBPVR with little configuration. Using the IR blaster DOES need something like HIP (and HipSend)

I believe it's correct in saying you might need alternate drivers, found on this page: http://www.byremote.com.au/Hip/mce_remote_faq.htm

It will also discuss how the 2004 version of MS MCE Remote may not work properly.

The HipGuide is very good at settnig up your STB and IR Blaster using HIPGuide.exe

One thing to remember when you finally configure the Channel Changer Setting (use '.exe Changer Plugin) is browse to the hipsend.exe file and add '{channel}' (with out the quotes) and using curly brackets

eg: "c:\program files\HIP\hipsend.exe" {channel}

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...
