Hi all,

For some reason GBPVR will no longer play DVD's on my system, I just get a black screen. No OSD either. It had been working fine up until today. Anyway,
I completely uninstalled EVERYTHING: GBPVR, WinDVD 7, Nero 7, and all WinTV drivers and apps. Reinstalled everything and still no go. DVD's play fine in WMP and Windvd. I don't know what else to try...

Which DVD decoders do you have selected in the config app?

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach your logs and I'll take a look.

Hi Sub,

Thanks for trying to help. The config is set to use the system default codecs, which should be the "Intervideo Video Decoder". Changing the config to use "Intervideo Video Decoder" specifically (the only one that shows up in the pull-down) does not help. I have attached a screenshot of the codecs listed by the XP Decoder Checkup util as well as the logs.

Thanks again!

Can you attach a set of logs which shows you trying to use the 'Intervideo Video Decoder' and 'Intervideo Audio Decoder' (not the NonCSS versions)? The logs dont show this combination.

Hi Sub,

Here they are. One of the logs says it can't find the codecs, even though they are there. I'm beginning to think I may have to start from scratch... (OS reinstall). Thanks...

Hi Tipstr,

I gave up on WinDVD. I had a copy of PowerDVD 5 that came with my DVDR laying around, so I installed it, then downloaded and installed the latest patch for it, and now I can play DVD's in GBPVR again (Yay!). Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the Hophog 45 remote to play nice with it ;-)

I guess I should post for the benefit of others, it wasn't as simple as just uninstalling WinDVD and installing Power DVD. I uninstalled ALL applications that install video codecs, ie Nero, WinDVD, PowerDVD, and the Happhauge decoders, then ran a bunch of freeware registry cleaners, then reinstalled the Happhauge codecs, then PowerDVD. Smarter individuals would use the myriad of tools out there to troubleshoot and manage codecs, but I am not one of those people. I am still struggling to understand the functions of all the various codecs, filters, Directshow, etc. Maybe someday it may become clear to me ;-)
