DVD playback digital audio 5.1

I'm using a Hauppauge 350, in software mode nview TV output as a secondary display. The 350's hardware output just doesn't work as advertised, and I don't think Hauppauge cares. Anyway, if I play a DVD, I get video and audio, but the audio is VERY muted, and is not running in 5.1, only 2ch stereo. I've tried the digital coax & fiber optic on my mobo and get nothing from either. If I play a DVD via Intervideo WinDVD 6 Platinum, I can get 5.1 either through analog 5.1 output(currently using), or either fiber optic or coax. I'm running the sound into my stereo with analog multi-channel inputs and fiber optic. My typical volume setting is 20-30, with the GBPVR DVD playing, I have to crank it to almost 50, and it's still only 2ch. Am I missing something?

Yes you are...... the 350 is not capable of 5.1, only 2.0.

Ps: Hauppauge never advertised that it can, the 350 is made for recording and playback of live tv, its not meant for dvd playback.

I understand this, the stereo outputs from the 350 are only stereo, so I don't expect to get 5.1 from it  Besides, I am not even using them.

But, when watching a DVD in any DVD software package, such as WinDVD, I'm using my soundcard's outputs into my stereo to hear audio, either via the three analog outputs (front left/right, rear left/right, sub/center) split, going into the receiver's analog multi-channel inputs, or using the digital coax or fiber optic directly into my receiver.  In either case, I have 5.1.

Now, within GBPVR, I can watch a video with the Video Library, previous recordings, live TV, Music Library, etc. using the soundcard's analog outputs.  I do not use the 350's audio outputs at all, all sound is being generated from my soundcard, which is 5.1 capable and digital capable.  So if GBPVR is using my soundcard as the audio renderer in all other cases, why can it not use it to render/pass along 5.1 either analog or digital from DVD playback?

Note, in my previous post, where I said during DVD playback I am only getting 2ch stereo, this is also through my soundcard, so GBPVR/350 is bridging my audio through the soundcard.
