H2 reduce file size without loosing quality?

Hi all,
maybe this is posted on a wrong place, but I am not sure.

I wonder how a DVD film of over 3 hours can have such a good quality picture but my recordings with GBPVR is about 2.3 Gigs per hour? If a DVD is 4.7 Gigs it should be impossible with more than about 2 hours.

My question is therefore; Can I do something with my recorded files and reduce the size without the quality, so that I can burn them on a DVD?

As you all now clearly understands, I am not a programmer and is just learning how this all works.

experiment in config, capture sources (edit), recording sources (edit) to see what's the lowest setting your willing to put up with, ofcause that only works for future recordings...

A DVD movie you buy is dual layer (well, most are). Thus twice that size potentially. In addition, they're transferred off of professional quality film, not horrible (by comparison) analog tv signals.

There's no way to reduce the size of your existing videos without passing them through another layer of lossy encoding. Thus there *will* be a quality loss regardless. However, if you use good encoders (like CCE) and experiment with the settings, you should find a sweetspot where it comes to quality/size. Where that sweetspot is is a personal opinion issue so you don't really have any choice but to do some testing and deciding for yourself.

For the future, you can change the bitrate GB-PVR uses (in the config).
