Hauppauge WinTV 401 Support?

Does anyone know if the GBPVR application supports the Hauppauge WinTV-401? If not is there any other free application that supports it? My friend is trying to find a program to use on it besides the WinTV2000 that comes with it, for some reason it won't let him record with it. He's tried BeyondTV but is trying to find a free solution.

Sorry, this card lacks the hardware MPEG2 encoder required to work with GB-PVR.

i'm pretty sure that one will work with the software recorder...tho you need a decent system...[p4-1600+]
