I remain confused about the PC client functionality and configuration needs. I have looked on the WIKI and in searched this forum to get a coherent description, but did not find one. I did upgrade my normal installation to version 98.08. That works fine with the MVP.

On a different machine I did the Client install. Set the configuration to client in streaming mode. I did share the gbpvr directory on the server. Next I started the client. I could see the TV Guide, and open a channel from there. I do get a black screen with on top the text "Starting timeshift mode TV. Please Wait". The screen remains black for ever.

1) I assume that the only thing I have to configure is the Client/Server section of the Capture Sources tab.
2) I assume the other tabs have no effect whatever has been set there.
3) As a consequence of 1) and 2) I can safely delete all the GBPVR subdirectories except \skin ?

I have attached the 3 log files (1 from server 2 from Client) that changed as a result of my last attempt to watch LiveTV. Hope someone finds a clue to my problem.

Its a very new feature, so nothing much has been written about it so far.

Quote:1) I assume that the only thing I have to configure is the Client/Server section of the Capture Sources tab.
The only settings related to the client/server functionality are on the capture sources tab.

Quote:2) I assume the other tabs have no effect whatever has been set there.
Other tabs still have an effect on how things work locally on the client (decoders, renderers, local DVD drive, video library directories, etc), but have no affect on client/server aspect of it.

No.

The client is just like any other GB-PVR install, except that it is capable of sharing the database with the server, and can playback recordings or live tv from the server. Everything else is just like it would normally be on a single machine setup.

You forgot to attach those logs.

Sub, thanks for the answers. That's the kind of clarification I needed.
Sorry for the missing logs, I got interrupted while posting. (There should be a global ban on interrupting grey haired peopleSmile )

The first thing I'd try doing is running the ReRegisterFilters.bat file:

Thanks Sub, that did the trick. I do get an image now. I have as yet to see (or actually hear) if the sound works. I am installing this via remote desktop far away from home. I have no sound on this connection

You don't need to answer this, but I have seen the recommendation to reregister in many other threads. So if it might help to find the cause of the underlying problem just for the record my install procedure:

On this machine I did my first install late 2005 in the default C: directory. I did uninstall it when I moved to a dedicated GBPVR server. Beginning of this week I did a fresh install via remote client on this machine in drive F:. By mistake I first started with insufficient administrative rights. Next I did it as admin. After two evenings of wrestling, I saw there was a new 9808b released. I hoped this would resolve my problems. So I installed again as admin. The remainder of the story is here in this thread.

Thanks for helping me out!

Thought I'd jump in and ask another question....

On the directories tab, should that point to the Server's data or local data...?

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

They're local to the client machine. So, you can either point to local media files that might not be on the server, or if you want you can point to shares on the server.
